After Pregnancy
It’s important to have safe and reliable information to help you feel confident as you adjust to life after birth. Find useful advice and guidance to support you and your baby in the early days and beyond.
Registering a Birth
You must register all births within 42 days of the baby being born, which you can do at the local register office.
When you register your child’s birth, you should know the following:
The time, place, and date of the birth (if more than one baby was born, the time of each birth)
The name, surname, and sex of the baby.
Parents’ names, surnames, and address (including the mother's maiden name)
Places and dates of the parents’ birth
If applicable, the date of parents’ marriage or civil partnership.
If applicable, the number of children that the mother has
Parents’ jobs
If your baby was born in Shropshire or Telford and Wrekin, you can find details about booking a birth registration appointment and what to do here:
Birth Reflections Service
The SaTH Birth Reflections Service lets you discuss your birth experience with a trained midwife. You can access this six weeks after your baby arrives.
Sessions take place in the Antenatal Clinic. You’ll review your hospital notes, ask questions, and reflect on your experience. Each appointment lasts up to 1.5 hours. You can bring someone along for support.
If you need more help afterwards, the team can connect you with other services.
To set up an appointment, email sath.birthreflections24@nhs.net. Include your name, date of delivery, NHS or hospital number, date of birth, and contact number. A team member will reach out to confirm your session.
